A Sock Lesson

A while back I posted a photograph of Aileen working on one of the more unusual projects we've had. She was working on a tapestry doorstop. She has now finished it and it really does look lovely. Was very much admired by the rest of us (had to wrestled from Dawn's hands).

We had two new members along. Our first new members since we moved. A big welcome to Anne and Lesley. Anne even brought along some baby items she finished for Linda. Perfect for the cold weather settling in.

Donna has also been preparing. This time for Christmas. She has finished her second pair of sock. These lovely socks are for her mum.

The last few week Elaine has been working on some beading. Turns out she is making some decorations for her cakes. This one is going to be for an anniversary cake. The couple it is for is celebrating a pearl anniversary. The colours are purple and so Elaine has planned the decorations of the cake to suit.

Dawn asked me last week to show her how to knit the toe-up baby socks. I offered to show others whilst I was there and Donna took me up on it. After an evening of teaching they now both have the toes done. The first was by Donna who used some of her left over sock yarn to practise. The second is by Dawn (first attempt at socks and second time using dpns). She used a lovely cotton. I even gave them homework of 10 rounds so that I can teach them to do the heal.

Winter is a coming!

These lovely baby cardigans were knitted by Stephanie. She hasn't knitted them for anyone in particular. She just liked the patterns. I think they are now going to a friends daughter. She was also reluctant to show them off. Once again (with the help of Linda) I had to sneak over with my camera.

Dawn also had a finish. She knitted this lovely hat. It's a gift for a friend. Dawn only learned to knit on the round using double pointed needles a few weeks ago.

Seems that most are working on Christmas gifts or winter woollies. Donna was working on Christmas socks. Magdalena was working on her shawl. Linda was putting the finishing touches to a scarf. Stephanie was working on more baby items. Joyce was working on a lovely cardigan. June was making a start on a lovely crochet baby blanket. Alison was working on her cross stitch. Suzanna was knitting her teddy bear scarf (in between helping Alison sort out what colours she needed). I was plodding my way along with a blanket. Elaine was doing some bead work.

We also got a wee show from Suzanna. Thanks to the extra space she was able to show us some of the Irish dancing she has been learning. She also brought along her trophy that she won at a competition that weekend.

Tuesday I will (doing my best) to teach baby socks. Hopefully I will do our Ginnie justice who is on a quilting cruise in Alaska right now.

Our New Home

We only had one finish this week but it was such a lovely one. Helen finished the sunflower scarf she was knitting for a friends birthday. If you are looking for an unusual scarf pattern you can always count on Helen to have one. She has surpassed herself with this one though. So unusual and pretty.

The biggest news is that we have made our move to the conference rooms in the management suite of the Fort. Look how much space we have now and the lighting is a huge improvement. I am pleased to say that everyone loved the room and are looking forward to bringing along larger projects. Our Carol was even back and she is looking forward to trying some stitching out.

Plenty of space for Amilee to crawl about.

And I even remembered to take note of what everyone was working on. Margaret was knitting a pink baby cardigan for a friend in work. Donna was knitting some Christmas socks. Magdalena was working on her shawl. Helen was working on a hat to go with a scarf. Laura was working on a spitfire tapestry. June was working on a lovely large crochet blanket. Linda was working on a crochet scarf. Elaine was knitting a baby cardigan. Stephanie was also knitting a baby cardigan. Val was working on a lovely sprCheck Spellinging jacket. Carol was knitting a scarf using some lovely recycled sari yarn. Suzanna was knitting a pink scarf for her teddy bear. Roberta was knitting a lemon cardigan. Alison was working on her bird cross stitch. Joyce was knitting a lovely cardigan. Aileen was finishing her door stop (just needs to be put together). Lastly I was working on a red blanket.

A lady from Wishaw hospital might be visiting us soon as she has asked if we would mind knitting some premature baby items for them and some of our members kindly volunteered.

On 21st September I am showing Dawn how to knit toe-up baby socks. So if you want to see and missed Ginnie's lesson from the knitting weekend let me know.

Better Late Than Never!

Apologies for this blog post taking so long. Life has had the audacity to get in the way. Anyways, couldn't wait to post these photo's any longer. The cross stitch above was done by Sheena as a wedding gift for her sister, Aileen. She took little motifs that remind her of Aileen and her day and put them together. The hair and the Wedding dress she changed to match Aileen exactly. So pretty!

Another cross stitch done this time by Margaret. These Christmas kitties were much admired by other cross stitchers in the group. This is a gift for her youngest daughter.

That night Magdalena finished this beautiful jumper. Knitted in cotton it will suit Adam perfectly.

Last but not least these dolls and scarves were knitted by Roberta for Linda's shoe box charity.

Last week was our last night in Starbucks. We very much appreciated the kindness of the Starbucks team in letting us use their space for the last 9 months. Sadly it wasn't enough space and we have had to relocate. We are now using the conference room in the management suite of the Fort. Just head over to the management suite and press the buzzer if you want to come along. Thankfully we can still bring in a coffee.
