CHRISTMAS is Coming!

Janice completed this stained glass window project that she started at the Village Patchers. This project was not for the faint hearted. She used a twin needle to stitch the black outline in place. Stunning.

Janice also had time to make these hanging pockets. when you put a reel of thread in them they change shape completely. The little cones, she saw on one of the craft programmes and improvised. These are made out of two quarter circle shapes. Very clever idea and would look great on the Christmas tree.

I'm sure that woman employs slave labour! Janice also had time to make 10 Beatson Bags. I got two lovely emails from McMillan Nurses at the Beatson thanking us for the syringe driver bags.

The lovely Fee had a finish this week. CAPTAIN AMERICA! She crocheted this for her friend.

I had time to play with my sewing machine! I had bought fat quarters at the quilt show to make some Baby Bunting for a friend who is expecting a little girl. The Christmas stocking was one of Janice's ideas and the fringing is from an IKEA fleece blanket.

May at the Village Patchers completed a Beatson Bag.

It is time for Linda's Shoe Box Appeal has had fun sourcing items for this box. We have supported this charity for a number of years but Linda has decided to call it a day. This will be her last year as a coordinator  because it takes up so much of her time, space in her home and the postage is expensive. It costs between £2.50 and £3 to post each box. To help cover the cost of postage I have given Linda a donation of £20 from our funds. Any cash donation towards the cost of postage will be very welcome.

Stephanie also had time to knit some squares for Lisa's charity for the sick kids. Elaine has volunteered to sew squares together to make the blankets.

Caroline had fun working on this star blanket for a friend's baby who decided to appear a wee bit too early. Mother and baby are doing well and the blanket is superb.

Donna created some more brooches and has just completed crocheting this scarf for herself. It has been worked in Lisa's yarn but has still to be blocked. The lace pattern is very delicate.

Christmas is definitely on its way! Caroline P was delighted to showcase her Christmas wreaths. I love these!

Patsy has really caught the quilting bug. This is the quilt she made for her sister's Christmas and below is a play mat that she sewed as a Christening present.

Christmas party is on Tuesday 1st December. Remember to bring  a present to the value of £5 for pass the parcel.

The group will donate £20 from funds for The Glasgow Fort charity event to fund a sensory room at Rose of Lima Primary.

We stop on 1st of December because it is always difficult parking at the Fort in the run up to Christmas.

The group will start up again on Tuesday 12th of January 2016.

Our New LOGO!

 I asked Lisa to design a logo for our group. Lisa is multi-talented and came up with this. It even has a RED element in the design in memory of Margaret. Great job, Lisa!

Anthea made a large pencil case to fit into a ring binder to keep all of her drawing and writing tools while out at college. On Tuesday night  she was just completing a bolster cushion for a friend. It is now living in its new home and her friend is delighted.

I completed this little pram cover for my box. I bought the panel last year at the craft show in the SECC.

Stephanie completed a Twiddle Muff and had great fun adding a variety of adornments. The second Muff was made by Alison and sewn up by Stephanie. I'm fascinated by these muffs. I love the textures and the decorations. We could all do with one of these!

Lyn and Elaine used the squares made by the Happy Hookers, during their charity walk, to create two lap blankets for the Beatson raffle.

Lyn had fun making this First Birthday present for a little girl she knows. It was greatly admired on Tuesday night.

Noreen likes to keep busy even when she is away on holiday. She needed gifts for 3 friends who were expecting little girls. Now she is super organised!

Janice was part of the Twiddle Muff enthusiasts. She knitted the muff on the left and decorated the muff on the right for someone else.

I love this! the colour changes are great. Jillian made this scarf for her daughter, Jemma, who starts studying at Edinburgh  Uni shortly.

Janice even had time to sew a Beatson bag this week.

Stephanie was felling inspired and made 6 Beatson Bags! Bright and cheerful!

Roberta completed sewing up this muff while we were in M & S Cafe. It will be decorated with all kinds of everything for next week.

We enjoyed our visit to M & S cafe on Tuesday night. There is always a lot of crafting going on and M & S are very welcoming. Annee sent a message to say that work will begin on the refurbishment of the Management Suite sometime Sept/ Oct. When this happens we will camp in M & S cafe.

Hats for the Rpyal Maternity Hospital

Earlier today I noticed an appeal by Anthea on behalf of the Royal Maternity Hospital for normal sized baby hats. The hospital had an ample supple for premature babies but had run out of the regular first size of hats. As luck would have it, I just happened to know that a knitter of 87 years young had a stash of baby hats looking for a charitable home. Gran Sheila had always been a knitter and liked to keep busy and had amassed  a collection of 90 hats over the last few months. She was delighted to donated her work to such a good cause. Well done, Gran Sheila! And a big Thank You to Norma who handed the collection into the Royal Maternity on her way to work the following day.

 I've been learning to crochet this year and I think I might just be making progress. I managed to complete two baby blankets this week. One for the Hospice shop in Bailieston and one for a lady who is about to go off on maternity leave.

Norma had a lot of fun creating this scarf. The yarn is called "Oh-la-la"  by Ice Yarns and there were only two stitches in the pattern If you would like to have a go at a similar project then you can obtain the yarn from Norma.

OK, I give in! Christmas is coming, The goose is getting fat .......etc, etc! I confess, I love these cross-stitch cards by Margaret. She really is planning ahead!

Noreen had completed a set of pram accessories. These miniature bootees are stunning and make such a beautiful gift.

Sharon has an eye for style! I told you earlier that traditional baby styles are all the rage just now. Practical, functional and CUTE!

Janice loved being a Clydesider and a ball at the Commonwealth Games. The Clyde mascots are for friends and the Clydesiders are for fellow Clydesiders who wanted a momento of the occassion.

I think Janice can knit this pattern with her eyes closed. This aran jacket and hat is gorgeous and is for a friend. There was some yarn left over so Janice just rattled up an extra hat. Just like that!

Kathleen's work is stunning! The baby hats were trimmed with eyelash yarn. The bigger of the hats was adapted from beret pattern and the smaller hat was adapted from a beanie pattern.

Anthea has many talents! These tops were created in response to the lovely weather we had this summer. The fabric for the Paisley pattern top was purchased in the Cotton Print Shop. The fabric at the top of the second garment was bought in South Africa in 1994. The darker blue fabric came from Mandors.

The third top has been made with a Lberty styleprint purchased in Mandors.

Anthea also crocheted this magnificent shawl for the cooler evenings using some of her own yarn that she had spun and dyed. The yarn is 100% silk. Anthea was unhappy with the resulting colour soooooo she dyed it again and this is the result.

This is the Anthea Fashion Show! Would you believe that Anthea got this fabric at one of our swap nights about a year ago? Our summer was so hot that Anthea needed a cool outfit. Wow!

Gill has been busy working on this amazing shawl in King Cole Riot. I must watch out for this yarn. The colour is called Urban.

Phyllis knitted this beautiful little baby dress in Baby Merino which she got from Norma. I love the detail in the dress.

Can you spot Magda? She had just returned from holiday in Poland and completed this blanket on her travels. She used six different colours to create 120 differnt hexagons. the result......STUNNING!

Elaine made this lovel wee FLUTTERBY baby suit. It is so soft to the touch. However, she had to alter the pattern to make the opening bigger to accommodate the baby. If you plan to use this pattern, please speak to Elaine and she will explain what she did. If you attempt it on your own the the baby will have to a contortionist to get into the garment!
