CHRISTMAS is Coming!

Janice completed this stained glass window project that she started at the Village Patchers. This project was not for the faint hearted. She used a twin needle to stitch the black outline in place. Stunning.

Janice also had time to make these hanging pockets. when you put a reel of thread in them they change shape completely. The little cones, she saw on one of the craft programmes and improvised. These are made out of two quarter circle shapes. Very clever idea and would look great on the Christmas tree.

I'm sure that woman employs slave labour! Janice also had time to make 10 Beatson Bags. I got two lovely emails from McMillan Nurses at the Beatson thanking us for the syringe driver bags.

The lovely Fee had a finish this week. CAPTAIN AMERICA! She crocheted this for her friend.

I had time to play with my sewing machine! I had bought fat quarters at the quilt show to make some Baby Bunting for a friend who is expecting a little girl. The Christmas stocking was one of Janice's ideas and the fringing is from an IKEA fleece blanket.

May at the Village Patchers completed a Beatson Bag.

It is time for Linda's Shoe Box Appeal has had fun sourcing items for this box. We have supported this charity for a number of years but Linda has decided to call it a day. This will be her last year as a coordinator  because it takes up so much of her time, space in her home and the postage is expensive. It costs between £2.50 and £3 to post each box. To help cover the cost of postage I have given Linda a donation of £20 from our funds. Any cash donation towards the cost of postage will be very welcome.

Stephanie also had time to knit some squares for Lisa's charity for the sick kids. Elaine has volunteered to sew squares together to make the blankets.

Caroline had fun working on this star blanket for a friend's baby who decided to appear a wee bit too early. Mother and baby are doing well and the blanket is superb.

Donna created some more brooches and has just completed crocheting this scarf for herself. It has been worked in Lisa's yarn but has still to be blocked. The lace pattern is very delicate.

Christmas is definitely on its way! Caroline P was delighted to showcase her Christmas wreaths. I love these!

Patsy has really caught the quilting bug. This is the quilt she made for her sister's Christmas and below is a play mat that she sewed as a Christening present.

Christmas party is on Tuesday 1st December. Remember to bring  a present to the value of £5 for pass the parcel.

The group will donate £20 from funds for The Glasgow Fort charity event to fund a sensory room at Rose of Lima Primary.

We stop on 1st of December because it is always difficult parking at the Fort in the run up to Christmas.

The group will start up again on Tuesday 12th of January 2016.

Sock it to them!

Karen has been busy knitting socks to give to friends she has been unable to see due to work and study commitments. Sock knitting is second nature to Karen and she rattled these socks up in no time at all.

I had a finish this week. This is my hitch-hiker scarf done in some of Lisa's lovely sock weight 4 ply yarn. I just love the sparkle in it!

Margaret is really well advanced with her preparations for Christmas. The Santa loo roll cover is particularly handsome. Look at the whiskers! Rudolf looks very smart in his festive colours.
 

 Lyn has also been busy creating a family of hedgehogs and little dolls to put in Linda's shoe box charity. If you have time and the inclination then Linda would be delighted to receive any knitted goods for this worthy cause.

See that Phyllis, she is one clever lady! Norma had asked for a "CAT" shawl and this is what Phyllis produced. Wow! is an understatement. Fab!!!!!!!!!!!

 Norma loves to crochet in her wee crafty house in the garden. The flower pram blanket is superb! the corner to corner blanket has a very subtle colour change going on. I don't know which one I like the best.

Susan has just completed this 3 ply shawl for a friend in work who is expecting his first baby. Actually, his wife is! This is a spectacular present and the workmanship is so fine.

Janice is another of our busy beavers. This week her finishes include a cosy little hoody AND a Christmas decoration. Janice saw this idea on TV but did not want to buy the kit at £18 because she had plenty of fabric in her stash. She just worked out how to adapt the idea and do it her way. Another clever lady. This is so effective.

Catriona loves knitting "Di's Designs." This is the Sunday Best pattern for a little prince and has been knitted using the Womens Institute yarn in 4 ply. The bootees are her own pattern based on a pair of boottees that someone did for Catriona's son when he was this size. Catriona just counted the stitches and rows and played about until she was able to produce something similar. By the way, this little ensemble is for sale.

Lorraine has been making items for  Breast Cancer Charity raffle. Above you can see a little Ali-baba basket trinket box.

This little heart hanger is so girly.it would look great anywhere.

And finally, Lorraine made this e-reader case. If you look at the opened case you will find that Lorraine has included a lovely little label.

Stephanie was given this yarn by her daughter. She had attempted to knit a bag with it and then thought that Mum would make a better job of it. The handles were an internet buy and cost just a few pence. Stephanie had some left over yarn and used it to make a matching scarf. Mums are wonderful!

Roberta crocheted two pram blankets. The first was plain and the with the second blanket she put her cross-stitch skills to good use and added a Teddy. Now, that is clever!

Roberta also had time to make a giant granny square baby blanket just in case! Another lady with a Just in case box!

Magda is full of tricks. She spun this merino super wash herself and plans to dye it herself. A very independent lady!

This is great! Jill has just completed an aviator helmet for for her friend's grandson who is seven months old.
Not a boring baby hat. He will be the talk of the town. Lucky boy.

Where Did You Get That Hat?

Those lucky Sea-farers will be delighted to tell admirers that their hats came from Glasgow Fort Knit and Natter! June had fun creating this colourful dozen for our group charity that ends next Tuesday night, 24th June. Margaret will draw this event to a close when she does the raffle.

Janice has been really creative by completing Pompoms for Lyn's collection that will join the World Record breaking attempt organised by Kirstie Allthrope. Janice had time to knit one of her famous fairies and Clyde, the mascot for the Commonwealth Games.

As you know Rainbow blankets are in vogue at the moment and this wee cracker was another finish by Janice. The blanket will be donated to the Creche that Janice volunteers at to raise funds.

We had a surprise visitor on Tuesday night, Swati's Mum, Sheila, came along to the group. Sheila arrived from India last week and has come over for the birth of Swati's first child. It is always amazing to see crafts from around the world and we were delight to see the traditional Indian jewellery that Sheila made for Swati to wear at her baby shower on 1st July. The baby shower is shaping up to be a very special occasion.

Izzy is our sewing queen! She is full of great ideas and her latest makes are for the Shoe Box Appeal. Each little bag contains a Teddy, a doll's blanket and two little pillows. They were greatly admired and almost did't make to the charity!

Roberta had another finish for her neice's new grandchild. This lovely crocheted blanket  will be put to good use.

This charming set was knitted by the lovely Esther. The detail is stunning and this will make a fabulous gift.
