Congratulations, Happy Hookers!

It is with great pride that I announce that the S & B fund raising group, The Happy Hookers, have reached the total of £2060 for the Beatson! This is more than double the target that they had hoped to achieve. A big well done to all concerned. it is a fitting tribute to Margaret and Yvonne's husband.

I sewed a couple of injection driver bags for the Beatson this week.

Elaine crocheted some squares for Lisa's charity make of blankets and woolly hats for the Sick Kids at Yorkhill (now based at the new Southern General) undergoing treatment for cancer etc.

Donna had some of this yarn left over from another project and crocheted two mini cowls as the weather was limping into autumn. I love these colours!

Morag has been busy knitting for her new great grandson. She has been trying to use up some of her stash with these three makes. This wee boy will be well turned out!

Kat has completed a second star blanket. in this one she has reversed the order of the colours. It is stunning!

Lyn has been working on this beautiful blanket using King Cole Melody DK. The colours are amazing!

Janice has knitted another Twiddle Muff. We took some along to the quilting group and kicked up a storm of interest. Everyone who handles one is taken by tactile nature of the muff. Maybe we should do one for ourselves and set aside for later. Just saying.

Stephanie prefers to knit than sew. This week she completed a little hooded jacket and hat for her box. This looks so cozy.

Elaine has asked that all deposits for Gartmore 2016 should be paid soon.

The charity makes that we are supporting just now are;-

Injection driver bags for the Beatson.
Knitted or crocheted Twiddle Muffs for dementia sufferers.
Yorkhill has asked for little cardigans, bigger sized hats for older children undergoing treatment and woolly blankets for these children because they feel the cold as a result of their treatment.
Now is the time to begin gathering up for The Shoe Box Charity. We support this each year and Linda will remind  us of what can be included shortly.

We have a large group with very different talents. Just do what you can. It will be appreciated.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Kelly! The newly weds got married in style on the island of Kos. Caroline was able to show off her hand crocheted flowers to the group. We now understand why she was busy beavering away trying out new patterns for flowers. Fabulous! The individual flowers were taken to Kos  and then assembled into this stunning bouquet for the wedding.

This amazing throw was made in secret by some of our members as a wedding present for Caroline and Tommy. Elaine, Linda, Dawn, Donna, Lyn, Fee, Norma, Susan and Audrey shared the work and Caroline didn't notice white squares being passed over to Elaine. There were a few tricky moments in its construction when they were nearly found out.   It is magnificent! Well done, to all who participated.

Elaine is a very kind aunt! She made this cushion from a  catch hook kit for a niece who loves horse and she completed this Mermaid's Tail for another niece who loves Mermaids! They will love you for ever, Elaine!

Squares for Nepal. Elaine sent off a bundle of squares to Nepal charity last week and Roberta appeared with a bundle of 40 squares that she made. Janice managed to complete a square in spite of the fact that she was whizzing around on cloud nine due to the arrival of her grandson.

Just to prove that the grandson has finally arrived, Louise and Andrew brought baby Christopher into the group to show him off. He is a wee charmer! As usual, a new baby caused a stir in the group and there was a crowd waiting for a "wee hold!" Such a great way to celebrate Janice's birthday.

Jill loves her crafting but is unable to come along to the group every week due to work commitments.
 This week she was delighted to show this beautiful ripple baby blanket that she had created for a friend at work. I love the colours. You friend will will be delighted with this, Jill!

Kat made this c2c blanket for herself using aran. Well, we all enjoy our comfort!

The second picture shows Kat with the cowl she saw in the Hunger Games movie and desperately wanted. Her lovely sister, Fran , made this for her in super chunky and as you can see, Kat is delighted!

Anthea has been spinning and dyeing yarn again. The dark hank is super fine Shetland yarn which is a purple variegated DK weighing 200g. The light coloured yarn is a turquoise  she dyed herself and mixed with a pink yarn that she got at a swap night. This is a DK in 100g and has been triple plied. 

Morag is getting back into knitting again after a long break. The white coat was a devil to do and she had to frog it on numerous occasions. Morag was determined to complete the coat and she has made a great job of it. The bolero has been worked in eyelash yarn and is from an old pattern that she has had for years. The third outfit was knitted from a pattern that Morag did for her daughter, Jillian, 45 years ago! It's ok, Jillian, your age will remain a secret with us! By the way, the original price is still on the pattern.

Donna has been working on a Quiet Book for her daughter. Above you can see Mr Potato Head and the components for Mrs Potato Head. The image below depicts a scene representing a song that Abby enjoys at nursery about Five Little Monkeys.

Fiona Orr has discovered this great pattern for baby hats. It is called, "Sweet like Candy" by "Charmed by You." As you can see, Fiona has had fun trying the pattern in several different colourways. So cute and parctical

Mr and Mrs Kelly were given a cash gift from the group to buy something nice. Luckily, Caroline managed to avoid Hobbycraft on her way home that night.

After consulting with members of the group on Tuesday night it was decided to increase the weekly subscription to £1 per week to meet the costs of postage of charity makes and other expenses that the group has incurred.

Everyone is eagerly anticipating the Red Challenge which will be held on the First Tuesday of October. Plans are being hatched and there is a great deal of whispering going on!

The group enjoyed their visit to Marks and Spencer's Cafe so much that it has been decided to make it a regular event. We will meet on the last Tuesday of each month in M & S Cafe to indulge in crafting, shopping and coffee.

All Kinds Of Everything!

Anthea was delighted with the way her Attic 24 Interlocking Ripple Pattern blanket worked out. It is a work of art. The yarn is Stylecraft special DK which came in an Attic 24 "Lucy " pack. Confused? Then get yourself over to the Attic 24 blog and explore the world of a very talented lady.

Kat wanted a knitting bag like the one her mum had, so she made this replica bag. She even re-cycled the handles and the ruler on the side of the bag. This is a really practical bag with pockets for a pattern and other crafting supplies. I'm very impressed!

Izzy crocheted this beautiful doll's pram blanket with odds and ends of left over yarn. She even had time to make a baby hat with a pretty flower addition.

Patsy was as proud as punch with the way this baby bag turned out. Izzy inspired her to make one of her famous baby bags as a gift for her new great-nephew.

At last I completed this pair of socks for myself. The yarn was an internet buy from some time ago and I enjoyed the way the colour changes worked but I didn't like the yarn itself because it split. I'm just glad I got to the end.

Janice had some time on her hands and made some bunting for the creche she volunteers in.The fabric was from IKEA. As a grandmother-in-waiting she wanted to make something for the baby. Janice decided to up-cycle an old cot duvet cover into a cosy cot quilt. This recycling business is fairly catching on!

 Janice still had some fabric to make some more of those cute bunnies and bibs. She even had time to knit a little green cardigan for her future grandchild. I love the way the buttons tone in with the cardi!

This is one of Janices' trade mark fairies. It has been made for a little girl who is about to become a big sister.

Ohhhhhhhhh! Lovely! Caroline made this amazing Elsa doll from Frozen. Some little girl will be enchanted with this. We were. Stephanie could hardly put it down.

And now for something completely different! Jill made this amazing hat for her nephew. It matches his coat. Jill adapted the pattern and then improvised a little.

Sometimes out crafters gift their work before they come to our group. Catriona made these wonderful hand embroidered silk pillows  for someone. Is there no end to the number of crafts this woman can do? I am truly impressed with the variety of skills found at this wee group!

Before the Baby Shower.......

Tuesday 1st of July was another busy night at the S & B. Lots of preparations were in place for Swati's Baby Shower and we even had some finishes.

Margaret knitted this great baby set for a friend. If you look carefully at the jacket you will notice that Margaret has created points of interest within the jacket by incorporating several stitch designs. In fact, it looks like a sampler!

Roberta has been busy with the pins knitting this intricate white cardigan for her Great Grand-daughter. The cat buttons are such a great idea. The blue and white jumper is something that Roberta rattled together in her spare moments. A great way to use up your odds and ends.

Wow! I saw Sharon working on this jacket a few weeks ago and was intrigued by the use of Eyelash yarn. The finished jacket is spectacular. What an amazing gift for someone.

Janice had two finishes this week. The pink cardigan with the sparkle buttons was for her box  and she had completed a little dog coat for her son's Jack Russel pup. The dog coat was a little on the large side for the pup but it would grow into it in time! Sadly, the photo of the dog coat seems to have disappeared into mist. Sorry about that!

Susan also had two finishes to show this week. I love these little knitted cardigans. I think hand knits have such a caring dimension to them. Anyone who receives hand knitted gifts just knows that they were made with love.

Something completely different! This Owl Mug Hug just appealed to me. How cute is this for a gift? Jean, I like your style!

I managed to complete this crocheted flower brooch. At the moment I'm attempting to crochet and I was delighted with this finish.

Please remember that every finish you bring along to the group to be photographed for the blog earns you a chance to win the weekly lucky dip. You have to be in it to win it!

Please remember that there is a conference taking place in the Management Suite for the next eight weeks. The furniture must be replaced in its original place ready for the next day. There is also a shortage of chairs, so if some people could bring along a fold up chair that would be great.
