Our New LOGO!

I asked Lisa to design a logo for our group. Lisa is multi-talented and came up with this. It even has a RED element in the design in memory of Margaret. Great job, Lisa!

Anthea made a large pencil case to fit into a ring binder to keep all of her drawing and writing tools while out at college. On Tuesday night  she was just completing a bolster cushion for a friend. It is now living in its new home and her friend is delighted.

I completed this little pram cover for my box. I bought the panel last year at the craft show in the SECC.

Stephanie completed a Twiddle Muff and had great fun adding a variety of adornments. The second Muff was made by Alison and sewn up by Stephanie. I'm fascinated by these muffs. I love the textures and the decorations. We could all do with one of these!

Lyn and Elaine used the squares made by the Happy Hookers, during their charity walk, to create two lap blankets for the Beatson raffle.

Lyn had fun making this First Birthday present for a little girl she knows. It was greatly admired on Tuesday night.

Noreen likes to keep busy even when she is away on holiday. She needed gifts for 3 friends who were expecting little girls. Now she is super organised!

Janice was part of the Twiddle Muff enthusiasts. She knitted the muff on the left and decorated the muff on the right for someone else.

I love this! the colour changes are great. Jillian made this scarf for her daughter, Jemma, who starts studying at Edinburgh  Uni shortly.

Janice even had time to sew a Beatson bag this week.

Stephanie was felling inspired and made 6 Beatson Bags! Bright and cheerful!

This is a selection of Twiddle Muffs made by Allison. They look great!

Roberta completed sewing up this muff while we were in M & S Cafe. It will be decorated with all kinds of everything for next week.

We enjoyed our visit to M & S cafe on Tuesday night. There is always a lot of crafting going on and M & S are very welcoming. Annee sent a message to say that work will begin on the refurbishment of the Management Suite sometime Sept/ Oct. When this happens we will camp in M & S cafe.

Are you organised for the RED Challenge? Some people are super organised! Just saying.

Next week we are in the Management Suite.

Happy Crafting!

The Happy Hookers ROCK!

The Happy Hookers did Margaret proud! This is our band of intrepid fund raisers who walked 10K to raise funds in the memory of our of our dear friend, Margaret. Fiona T thought  the whole experience had been brilliant fun, a good laugh but sore on the ankles! Jillian saw parts of Glasgow that she had never seen before!

Norma and Caroline entered into the fun of the occasion sporting new hair styles. Norma felt the event was inspiring! Caroline wants to sign up for next years event!

Lisa brought along her own mini supporter in the shape of Miss Isabella. It is therefore not surprising that Lisa thought the event was Awesome!

Each member of the team of Happy Hookers were presented with a goody bag created by Elaine and Dawn. It included Happy Hooker crochet hooks made especially for the day, a small ball of yellow yarn, a flower made by Caroline and an inspirational poem to set them on their way.

Each team member was encouraged to crochet a square as they went along to illustrate the fact that they did indulge in crochet and nothing else!

Fee stole the show with her eye catching socks! Lyn was ecstatic that she completed the walk without stopping.

Norma and Susan enjoying that sense of achievement!

Some of the yellow squares that will be made up into a lap quilt for the Beatson Raffle at Christmas.
On Tuesday night the total raised so far was £1095. Congratulations to all who participated or supported the event. Happy Hookers ROCK!

Linda created this lovely lap blanket using Ice Yarn. I could easily live with these muted shades.

Izzi had completed another quilt for Nepal.

Janice made 5 bags for the Beatson. Once that woman gets going, there is no stopping her!

Morag is really getting back into knitting after a long lay off. This week she used up some old yarn that had been sitting in the house for quite some time. What a fabulous make!

Sarah is new to crochet and was delighted to complete two garnny squares. This is a brilliant start on her crafting life.

Allison brought along some examples of TWIDDLE MUFFS for us to see and feel. These are intended for dementia sufferers but their was some debate about how calming they would be for children with autism. The muffs themselves should contain a variety if yarns with different textures and a collection of adornments. Both crochet and knitting patterns for these were available. If you have any old keys, big buttons, beads, ribbons etc feel free to bring them in and our highly trained team of sewers will add them to completed muffs.

I had a message from Annee in the Management Team to say that work on the building will begin September/October. No exact date has been given. We will go with the flow and will set up a temporary camp in M & S Cafe once we know what is happening.

Next meeting will be held in M & S cafe. Pass the word.

Happy crafting!

Stripes and things.

Roberta is full of energy after all her holidays and has knitted this wee hooded cardigan, "Just in case!" The pattern was adapted from one found in a knitting magazine. Look at the buttons! Ladybirds! The big jumper is intended for her Hubby who was feeling neglected. "Who are you knitting for this time?" was his constant cry! This fab jumper has been worked in ICE YARN.

Karen had suggested we make some fabric bags for the Beatson patients. Janince made these two with fabric she had bought from IKEA. The bags are smart, bright and functional. Well done. Janice.

Jillian can just about turn her hand to any craft. This week she had completed this very fine shawl for a friend. The yarn had been purchased from STITCH IN TIME in Hamilton.

Norma has been busy preparing for some Craft Fairs. I just love the little coin purses AND they are fully lined. The brooches are lovely. I hope people appreciate the amount of work people put into such items.

Patsy does it again! Quilting has a firm grip of Patsy. She can now rattle up a beautiful quilt in no time at all! The black and white cat quilt is for a friend's Golden Wedding anniversary!

Morag bought some yarn ages ago and forgot about it. The 3 balls of 100g will actually knit up into 4 little cardigans! Now that is value for money! You would never think that these two cardigans were knitted from the same ball of yarn!

Fiona Orr has been working on this Giant Granny Square for a friend for weeks. What amazes me is that Fiona's work is so neat it hardly requires any blocking!

The Happy Hookers will be participating in the Beatson Walk today. On Tuesday night, Norma said the total raised so far was £718.

Alison Explained the theory behind the TWIDDLE MUFFS for dementia sufferers. the different textures, yarns and adornments provide sensory calming for patients. We hope to have a couple of completed muffs to show and feel next week. If you have any spare textured yarn, ribbon, buttons, big beads, keys etc bring them in. A knitting pattern will also be available.

Janice has been searching the web for a practical pincushion and stumbled across this great idea. You fasten it around your wrist like a watch. Brilliant!

Yvonne bought a kit to kit a scarf from Watt Bros. She and her Mary, her lovely Mum-in-Law from New Zealand, worked it between them. Yvonne is adamant that she will keep it for herself and wear it during the winter months when she is going to work. The photo does not do the scarf justice! It is so cute!

I am a little bit in love with this. Fran crocheted this Moogly shawl using yarn her sister, Kat, brought back from Turkey. I love the colour changes and the edging is so delicate.

Jillian is firmly caught in the quilting web! This quilt is for herself to sit on a chair in the kitchen. The quilt incorporates a variety of textures including tweed. Jillian is really getting into the swing of it!

Isabel, this photo does not show off your lovely to its best. Isabel bought the cream Kid Silk yarn when it was on special offer. She had been seduced by the softness of the yarn! At a later date she then purchased some black Kid Silk to ensure she had enough to complete a project. Isabel had seen a demo on the web explaining Knitting with Beads. This was not an easy project to complete and Isabel says she may keep the scarf for herself.

Phyllis had some of Callum's Merino Gradient  purchased From The Love Of Yarn and decided to make this Pi shawl with it. this pattern really shows the colour changes to great effect.

Patsy is hook on quilting! Be warned, quilting can be addictive! Look carefully at the pictures. This one is ideal for cat lovers! Patsy made this one for her friend's special birthday. All together now......"Ahhhhhh!"

The Beatson charity walk is on Sunday 16th August if you would like to go along and support our Happy Hookers team.

Yvonne's Mum-in-Law, Mary, left a £10 donation to group funds as a thank you to everyone for their support and friendship over the last few months. Mary has returned to New Zealand and we hope to see her again whenever she is in Scotland.

CONGRATULATIONS to Fiona Orr and Martin on their engagement! Fiona, your ring is beautiful!

The Belly Dancing show for Alzheimer Scotland is on 2nd October at Eastwood Park Theatre. Tickets £12.50 each. As you know Belly Dancing is a great form of exercise. A wise person at the knitting group said, "It is also good for your sex life!" I bow to your superior knowledge!

Alison Freeman has agreed to act as coordinator for TWIDDLE MUFFS for Dementia sufferers. If you have any spare yarn and some time to create this item it will be greatly appreciated. The link will be sent in an email soon.

Happy crafting!
