Quilts Are Us!

Granny Janice has been at it again. This week, Janice, planned ahead. Baby Christopher will need a play mat to lie on, crawl over, investigate shapes and colours etc and this is the result. The fabric was an internet buy and will be well used.

Izzi had time to create a quilt for Nepal. Look at the fleece! Brilliant!

Patsy has really taken to quilting. This quilt is for a cousin who has a significant birthday to celebrate. It will be treasured.

Back to Janice again. This wee cardi had been completed weeks ago and hung around waiting for for buttons. The stylish cardigan will reside in The Box until it is needed!

Norma has had a burst of enthusiasm and brought along am amazing selection of finishes. She saw the idea for the Highland Coos while on holiday and bought some blanks to turn into brooches to sell at a Craft Fair. Can you believe that this vintage doily was on sale for 50p on the internet? Norma could not resist and bought it. Then she framed it to create a gift for a friend.

While in IKEA, Norma bought some coasters. She had no project in mind at that time. Eventually, she decided to create some bunting for a crafty friend. Great idea! Norma's next finish is the granny blanket and matching hat for a craft fair.

Karen had suggested that we make bags for cancer patients to carry around their morphine injectors. Izzi investigated various patterns and made a few bags which were handed into the Beatson. The feedback was very positive so Izzi made some more. Now she is working on a simple pattern for US to try. If you have a sewing machine and would be willing to have a go please let me, Izzi, Stephanie or Janice know. The models showing off the bags are Jemma, Roberta and Isabel.

Our next meeting will be held in M & S Cafe at the Fort on Tuesday 28th July.

Happy crafting!

Twinkle, twinkle, little STAR!

Phyllis had to plead with her darling grandson to be allowed to borrow the Captain America star blanket that she made especially for him. I can understand his reluctance to part with it. Fabulous!

Granny Janice has also been busy completing the bunting for little Christopher. That's a lot of letters to sew on! You did a great job there, Janice. The little cardigan has been done in sparkle yarn and is for her box! It is a wee bit girly for Christopher.

Jemma is going to Edinburgh Uni in September and will be staying in the Halls of Residence there. This is her first patchwork creation and has been made to give her bedroom a homely feel. I love this. Well done, Jemma!

Audrey has just completed her degree and crocheted this Elise shawl in 3 ply yarn to celebrate. Go on spoil yourself, Audrey! Celebrate in style!

Fee is another of our talented ladies. She hooked this stunning c2c blanket for her friend's baby girl and then added the cheeky little monkey. so Cute!

Fee's Mum, Lyn, has knitted these little cardigans as a present for Fee's friend. The colours are rich and cozy. Hand knits always make a great present.

Yvonne enjoys making the pompom blankets. This beautiful blue and white combo was made for little Christopher. Louise was delighted with it.

Yvonne's Mum-in-law, Mary, has been visiting again from New Zealand. She started this wee all- in- one suit when she arrived and completed it in time to show on Tuesday night. Mary couldn't remember the name of the yarn but it is lovely and soft and very warm. Another great finish.

Elaine is still collecting 8inch squares for the Knitting for Nepal charity if you would like to participate.

Please remember that the weekly subscription is now £1. This pays for postage for charity makes, eats for social evenings, prizes for the lucky dip and many other activities.

If you would like to participate in the Beatson charity walk taking place in August please contact Caroline or Norma or Fiona. We have some official sponsor sheets if anyone would like one.

It is official! We will be meeting in the M & S Cafe at the Fort on the last Tuesday of each month. We will be there on Tuesday 28th of July.

I have started my RED project, Have you?

Happy crafting!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Kelly! The newly weds got married in style on the island of Kos. Caroline was able to show off her hand crocheted flowers to the group. We now understand why she was busy beavering away trying out new patterns for flowers. Fabulous! The individual flowers were taken to Kos  and then assembled into this stunning bouquet for the wedding.

This amazing throw was made in secret by some of our members as a wedding present for Caroline and Tommy. Elaine, Linda, Dawn, Donna, Lyn, Fee, Norma, Susan and Audrey shared the work and Caroline didn't notice white squares being passed over to Elaine. There were a few tricky moments in its construction when they were nearly found out.   It is magnificent! Well done, to all who participated.

Elaine is a very kind aunt! She made this cushion from a  catch hook kit for a niece who loves horse and she completed this Mermaid's Tail for another niece who loves Mermaids! They will love you for ever, Elaine!

Squares for Nepal. Elaine sent off a bundle of squares to Nepal charity last week and Roberta appeared with a bundle of 40 squares that she made. Janice managed to complete a square in spite of the fact that she was whizzing around on cloud nine due to the arrival of her grandson.

Just to prove that the grandson has finally arrived, Louise and Andrew brought baby Christopher into the group to show him off. He is a wee charmer! As usual, a new baby caused a stir in the group and there was a crowd waiting for a "wee hold!" Such a great way to celebrate Janice's birthday.

Jill loves her crafting but is unable to come along to the group every week due to work commitments.
This week she was delighted to show this beautiful ripple baby blanket that she had created for a friend at work. I love the colours. You friend will will be delighted with this, Jill!

Kat made this c2c blanket for herself using aran. Well, we all enjoy our comfort!

The second picture shows Kat with the cowl she saw in the Hunger Games movie and desperately wanted. Her lovely sister, Fran , made this for her in super chunky and as you can see, Kat is delighted!

Anthea has been spinning and dyeing yarn again. The dark hank is super fine Shetland yarn which is a purple variegated DK weighing 200g. The light coloured yarn is a turquoise  she dyed herself and mixed with a pink yarn that she got at a swap night. This is a DK in 100g and has been triple plied.

Morag is getting back into knitting again after a long break. The white coat was a devil to do and she had to frog it on numerous occasions. Morag was determined to complete the coat and she has made a great job of it. The bolero has been worked in eyelash yarn and is from an old pattern that she has had for years. The third outfit was knitted from a pattern that Morag did for her daughter, Jillian, 45 years ago! It's ok, Jillian, your age will remain a secret with us! By the way, the original price is still on the pattern.

Donna has been working on a Quiet Book for her daughter. Above you can see Mr Potato Head and the components for Mrs Potato Head. The image below depicts a scene representing a song that Abby enjoys at nursery about Five Little Monkeys.

Fiona Orr has discovered this great pattern for baby hats. It is called, "Sweet like Candy" by "Charmed by You." As you can see, Fiona has had fun trying the pattern in several different colourways. So cute and parctical

Mr and Mrs Kelly were given a cash gift from the group to buy something nice. Luckily, Caroline managed to avoid Hobbycraft on her way home that night.

After consulting with members of the group on Tuesday night it was decided to increase the weekly subscription to £1 per week to meet the costs of postage of charity makes and other expenses that the group has incurred.

Everyone is eagerly anticipating the Red Challenge which will be held on the First Tuesday of October. Plans are being hatched and there is a great deal of whispering going on!

The group enjoyed their visit to Marks and Spencer's Cafe so much that it has been decided to make it a regular event. We will meet on the last Tuesday of each month in M & S Cafe to indulge in crafting, shopping and coffee.

Happy Crafting!
